With All-Star weekend less than a week away (Feb.16-18), it's only fitting that we take a trip down memory lane and recall some of our favorite memories from the always eventful mid-season showcase.
Our mini-series continues...
I am not an American, but I have no problem admitting that the U.S. has the best National Anthem of them all. I will not argue about this.
What I will also not argue about is the fact that Marvin Gaye, performing before the 1983 NBA All-Star Game at the old Forum in Los Angeles, did the best rendition of the anthem in history. If you don't get chills watching and listening to this performance, then I'm afraid you and I cannot be friends.

Honestly? I didn't think it was that great. I like my Anthem booming and orchestral, not sultry and synthesized. The best rendition is Whitney Houston's, even though she was lip syncing at the Super Bowl.

That was just about the smoothest thing I've ever seen. Good work, Mutoni.

I was about 100 feet from Marvin when he sang the anthem. I recently wrote a story about the experience which I posted on my personal website: http://www.toddmintz.com
